Last Updated: March 2026

Unbookd (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal information when you visit our website (unbookd.com) or contact us via WhatsApp to use our facilitation services.

For the purposes of the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR, the data controller is Thomas Read trading as Unbookd.

1. Information We Collect

Because we do not currently offer user accounts on our website, we only collect information that you voluntarily provide to us through direct communication:

  • Contact Information: Your phone number and name as displayed on WhatsApp. Communications are held on the WhatsApp platform and are subject to WhatsApp's own privacy terms.
  • Travel Preferences: Information you provide regarding your travel plans, interests, and requirements to help us match you with a guide.
  • Payment Data: When you pay via our secure payment partner (Stripe), they collect your payment details. We do not store your full credit card information on our servers.
  • Technical Data: We may collect basic website analytics (like your IP address and browser type) to help us understand how people use our landing page. We use PostHog for this purpose, which may record your interactions with our site (such as clicks, scrolls, and page navigation) to help us improve our service.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data strictly to:

  • Facilitate an introduction between you and a vetted local guide.
  • Manage your payment escrow and provide receipts.
  • Improve our vetting processes and customer service.
  • Comply with legal and regulatory requirements in the UK.
  • Analyze website performance and troubleshoot technical issues.

3. Lawful Basis for Processing

We process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract: To fulfill our service of introducing you to a guide.
  • Legitimate Interests: To manage our business, prevent fraud, analyze website usage, and ensure the safety of our community.
  • Consent: Where required, we rely on your consent for the use of non-essential cookies and session recording.

4. International Data Transfers

To provide our service, we must share your name and contact details with independent local guides in Rwanda.

Please note that Rwanda may not have the same level of data protection laws as the UK and is not on the UK's "Adequacy List". However, we only share the minimum information necessary to facilitate your tour and vetting. By using our service and communicating with a guide, you explicitly consent to this data transfer for the purpose of your tour. Additionally, our analytics data processed via PostHog may be stored on servers located in the US or EU.

5. Data Sharing

We do not sell your data. We only share information with:

  • Your Chosen Guide: To allow them to contact you and plan your experience.
  • Service Providers: Such as Stripe (payment processing), WhatsApp (communication), and PostHog (analytics).
  • Legal Authorities: Only if required by law.

6. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:

  • Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Request that we delete your data ("Right to be Forgotten").
  • Object to us processing your data.

To exercise these rights, please contact us at [email protected].

7. Cookies

Our website may use basic cookies to improve your browsing experience. We use PostHog cookies to track how you navigate the site. If you decline our cookie banner, PostHog will operate in a restricted mode that does not store cookies on your device. You can set your browser to refuse cookies, but some parts of the site may not function properly.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as our business grows (e.g., when we add user accounts). We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.
